The Making of Project III

My Project III proposal details my original goals for the documentary. I wanted to model the project after MTV's show Girl Code. At this point in the process, my main concern was that my subjects would not be willing to open up, or that the finished product would come across as too serious.

After collecting hours of footage from my roommates, I used iMovie to edit and compile the best.

For our third and final project in the minor, we were given the task of remediating our Project II. Because my second project was so focused on myself, I chose to take a seat behind the camera and explore the perspectives of others. I wanted to create a short documentary, giving viewers an inside look into the lives of five college females. The roommates talk about life, growing up, what it means to become an adult, and if they feel as though they'll ever reach that point.  The results are candid, relatable, and provide an undoctored view of the average college student. A special thanks to my five housemates, who opened up to me even when I was shining a lamp in their eyes and asking them tough questions.

My roommates and I did all the filming in one weekend, and we were pretty sick of each other by the end of it. I think the greatest lesson I learned was that growing up can be terrifying, but there is no set way in which it has to happen. The only advice I can give to people who may be watching this is to surround yourself with people who will accept you no matter what and are willing to act childish with you every once in a while.
